How to Get Cyndi Lauper’s 80′s Makeup

Hello BH Beauties!

cyndi-lauper-makeupToday is Thursday and you know what that means….#ThrowbackThursday. In honor of our Eyes on the ‘80s Eyeshadow Palette, we decided to feature looks from one of our favorite makeup trendsetters of this totally cool decade, Cyndi Lauper.

She made bright colors fashionable and fun. Follow these tips to get a modern version of her look!

80′s Eyes

Our Eyes on the ‘80s Eyeshadow Palette mixes a vibrant array of matte, shimmer and neon shades that embrace everything we love about the decade of big makeup and big hair. Create a bright and colorful look by applying the shadows from our palette. I recommend staying in the same color family when selecting an eyeshadow (pinks and purples can stay together). Also, when applying the eyeshadow be sure to layer and blend the colors with one of our makeup brush sets to create a smooth and finished look.

Now that your eyes are bright with a pop of color, it is time to add color to your face. I recommend applying blush, as this was a popular ‘80s look. Our Glamorous Blush Palette features a variety of colors including nudes, pinks and berry shades perfect for day and night.

The last step in this process is adding color to your lips! The ‘80s were infamous for bright lip colors in shades of red, pink and orange. To create vibrant lips layer one of our lipsticks on and don’t forget to apply lip liner. Lip liner is essential for outlining your lips and filling in color.

Those are our favorite looks of the decade, what are yours? In honor of #ThrowbackThursday share your ‘80s looks with us and use #bhcosmetics on Instagram for your looks!

Celebrate July’s Birthstone: Ruby

The ruby has been known to arouse the senses and stir the imagination guaranteeing health, wisdom, wealth, and love. Some believe it possess charact

eristics of devotion, integrity, courage, and happiness. This romantic gem is the rarest of all gemstones and is one to be desired, just like you! The shade of ruby red is classic and bold and can be worn so many beautiful ways.

As stunning as this color can be in a pair of earrings or in a necklace, it can be worn just as beautifully on your face! Let’s start with the obvious; there is hardly anything more sassy, dauntless, and eye-catching as a ruby-red lip.  A few dabs of concealer, a pair of false lashes, and a red lipstick is one of the simplest ways to look sexy and put together in no time. If you prefer a more sheer red that you can swipe on mirror-less, try a red Lip Gloss .

Now, let’s get creative.  Start with the gorgeous red shade in the Eyes on the ‘80s palette (it’s 2nd down on the 1st column). How does one wear red on the eyes you ask? Start soft and build. Use the shadow with a small brush as a liner on the top lash line and pair it with a softer shade on the lid. Try it on the outer “v” with a neutral color that softly fades into the red. Don’t forget to blend for best results, make sure to take your time on this step! Want to take this look to the next level? Take a red Glitter and add it to the center of the lid for a pop of ruby! Make sure to use a primer or sticky eyeshadow  to help hold the glitter in place.

The color red represents: energy, determination, and power. Rock this color with confidence and show just how amazing you Ruby Birthstones really are!

BET Awards Makeup Showdown

Hello BH Beauties!

Did you get a chance to watch the BET awards this past Sunday? Between the #LionelRitchie fail and Nicki Minaj’s acceptance speech, it was a crazy night of performances. Oh course, since we’re makeup addicts, we were focused on the red carpet beauties!

Here are some of our favorites:

Gabrielle Union! Can you believe she is 41? She looked stunning at the BET awards with gorgeous hair and radiant, dewy skin. Her brows were flawless and her eyes were lightly lined and finished with a full lash. Her lips were neutral and glossy, and her face had just the right amount of contouring. We love this simple, elegant look!

Actress Zendaya wore a similar look with a neutral peach lipstick and dark-lined eyes, heavy mascara, and perfect brows. Her skin looked gorgeous and sun-kissed and looked fabulous with her casual outfit.

Jennifer Hudson paired thick winged eyeliner and heavy mascara with a bright red lip, keeping the look simple so all attention was directed to her sexy new pixie cut!

Nicki Minaj – if you only remember her from the crazy colored wig days, you might not have recognized her at the BET awards with long, dark hair in tight curls. She kept the focus on her gorgeous hair by keeping her makeup neutral pairing defined brows, simple lined eyes and a glossy lip. To copy her look, don’t forget to use a highlighter to mimic her stunning cheekbones.

We’re not sure what’s going on between Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj, but we love Iggy’s bright pink lips (kind of like our pop cultured lipstick!), winged eye and shimmery eye makeup.

Kenya Moore paired a beautiful orange lip (try Sweet Mango) with tight-lined eyes and thick, full lashes. Her brows are also thick – another big trend we noticed at this year’s awards!

What was your favorite look at the BET awards this year?

Fourth of July Makeup Looks to Make You Shine

Hello BH Beauties!

Summer is in full swing and the Fourth of July is just around the corner. This means it is time for cookouts, visits with family and friends and fireworks. Why not try a new makeup look to celebrate Independence Day? Here are a few ways you can use cosmetics to incorporate red, white and blue into your style.

Nails - An easy fun way to get into the spirit is by painting your nails in a shade of red or blue. If you are partial to red, I recommend trying Classic from the Flirty Mini Nail Polish Set. If blue is your color of choice, check out Boy from the Trendy Mini Nail Polish Set. Both will give you the perfect pop of color for your fingers and toes during the holiday weekend!

Another way to create a playful look with your nails is to apply manicure stickers. Manicure stickers are a convenient way to create beautiful nails in minutes. I like our Shipmate stickers because they have the perfect blend of red, white and blue.

Lips - If you are partial to pinks and nudes, now is the time to switch things up and show your pride with a red lip. Wearing lip gloss is a fun way to add color and shine to your face. Our Classy Gal is the perfect shade of red to create a bright pout for photos. If you prefer lipstick, I recommend our Red Truffle for vibrant color. Always remember to take care of your lips by exfoliating and moisturizing prior to applying any lip product for the best results.

white eyelinerEyes - Last but not least are your eyes. Wearing white eyeliner is flattering because it brightens eyes and compliments a bold lip. White eyeliner can be worn as is or it can be paired with blue eyeliner to create a layered look with contrast.

What will your Fourth of July makeup look like? Remember to share your stories and photos with us!

4 Ways to Amp Up Your Eyeliner This Summer

Hi BH Beauties!

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a little bored with doing the same eyeliner routine everyday. I love checking out your looks on Instagram (use #bhcosmetics) and seeing the different looks you’ve created! I’ve been inspired and here are some of my favorite ideas for summer 2014.

Line Eyes with Brights or Pastels

fun eyeliner ideas

Put away the black and brown eyeliner and invest in some fun colored eyeliner! I love our eye crayons because you can use them as eyeliner or eye shadow. My favorite spring color is Heavenly, but Iris is a beautiful light purple too.

White Eyeliner

I’ve talked about white eyeliner a lot on the blog, but that’s just because it’s one of my favorite trends this spring and summer. It’s fun, makes your eyes look bigger, and the look can be subtle or dramatic depending on how you apply it.

Try it out and apply just a little bit to the inner corners of your eyes, or line your bottom waterline with it. For more advanced users, double line your upper lashes with black and then white.

Double Eyeliner

double eyeliner ideasOne of my favorite looks I’ve seen this season is the double eyeliner look. As I just mentioned, lining your eyes with black and then white on top is a really cool look. I also love pairing black or brown eyeliner and pastels or brights together and making a double winged eyeliner look. You can combine whatever you want – get creative!

Upside-Down Eyeliner

We all have different eye shapes and some eyeliner looks work for some, and look terrible on others. I used to think it only putting eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes was The #1 Beauty Rule you were not supposed to break, but I’ve seen a number of awesome tutorials for upside-down eyeliner. This works well for hooded eyes and those with smaller eyes as it opens up the space between the eye and brow, while still drawing attention to your gorgeous eyes. There’s a neat tutorial on The Beauty Department on how to do an upside-down cat eye.

Celebrate June’s Birthstone: Pearl

Birthstone_June_Fb_550_550June is the month of the pearl, and it couldn’t get more classic than this! This timeless birthstone represents loyalty, faithfulness, and friendship, modesty and purity. Beautiful June babes have it so good, since pearl can be worn so many ways!

Of course, our favorite way to represent your birthstone is through makeup! We have some tips to give you that gorgeous pearlescent glow. Our first favorite is the 88 Color Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette. This palette offers some gorgeous, iridescent, cool-toned shades to create a simple yet eye-catching look. Use the shades on the upper left side of the palette in the inner corner or lower lash line for an angelic and innocent shimmer. Just a little bit of that shimmer around your eyes can make them look bigger and brighter and enhance your natural beauty!

Next, take the highlight shade in the center of the Forever Nude Palette to the tops of the cheekbones. If you prefer more of a pink highlight for a natural flush, try mixing the top two shades of the Bombshell Bronze in Starlet over your cheeks. Top off the look with a perfect, glossy pout using our Lip Gloss in Angel Kiss. With this look your friends will surely ask for your fresh-faced secret!

Happy Birthday June Babes & be sure to share these tips with your other June friends!

Navy and Pink Makeup Inspiration

Hello BH Beauties!

Do you ever get stuck in a makeup rut and can’t seem to get out? You get comfortable with one look and aren’t interested in trying something new. Been there! My go-to look is winged eyeliner with a little bit of a rose gold shimmer eyeshadow – barely there, but enough to add some dimension to the look. But… I’ve been wearing that look for months now!

Recently I’ve been inspired to change it up a bit. I have brown eyes; so blue eye makeup is great for my coloring. I pulled out the new Eyes on the 80′s Palette and started with the cream eye shadow all over my lids and highlighting the under my brow. Apply the purply-blue color (far left) to the outer corners of your eyes to about halfway across the lid. Then take the pink shimmer and apply it to the inner corners of your eyes to halfway across the lids and blend the pink and blue colors. If it’s a little too “blue” for you, try toning it down with a little bit of the silver eyeshadow.

eyes-on-the-80s-bh-cosmeticsI lined my eyes with a little bit of liquid eyeliner and finished the look with a few coats of the BH Cosmetics mascara.

For the rest of my face, I used a light pink blush on the apples of my cheeks so I didn’t look washed out. (I like Daisy and Lilac)

To finish off the look I used a light pink lip color. (Studious or Knock-Out lip glosses or Tea Time lipstick would both work, although it depends on your coloring). For my coloring, I chose Forever Nude because although it’s a nude lip color, it has pink undertones in it, which is really flattering on me.

What do you think? Have you done a look like this?

Our Favorite Spring 2014 Makeup Trends

white eyeliner 2014It’s finally warming up and the first day of spring is only a few weeks away! We’re ready to say “goodbye” to wine and berry lip colors and dark smoky eyes and say hello to lighter colors and warmer weather.  Here are our favorite trends for Spring 2014.

Nude Lips – We’re so thrilled the nude lip trend is continuing! If you missed the Oscars, many of our favorite A-listers like Angelina Jolie were rocking a gorgeous nude lip with a stunning smoky eye. Our creme luxe lipstick in Forever Nude is a great option here!

Pastel Eyes – If you’re a “natural look” fanatic – this is perfect for you! Spring colors like pale pinks, lilac, and blues are all over the runway and perfect for the early spring months.

White Eyeliner – This has been a trend for a few seasons, but especially now in the Spring since it pairs so well with pastel eye shadow! White liner will make your eyes appear larger and if you want to play it safe, start by simply smudging some white eyeliner in the inner corners of your eyes (try using one of our eye crayons). You can be more daring by swapping it for traditional black eyeliner, or simply rim your waterline.

The Cat Eye Plus – If you haven’t seen any of the recent runway models, you’ve missed all the awesome graphic eyeliner designs. The classic cat eye is still trending, but many makeup artists have taken it up a notch and tried something more extreme with graphic patterns and designs.

Orange Lips –Forget oxblood and Merlot – Tangerine colored lips are the must-try trend this spring! Let your lips pop by pairing a simple cat eye or neutral eye shadow and mascara for maximum impact.

Sun-Kissed and Glowing Skin – It’s not a new trend, but we’ve been sun-starved for a long winter and we’re dying for sunny beams. Until then, we can fake it with a cream blush and pearly (not shimmery) highlighter. To achieve that glowing look, skip the powder and use a liquid foundation instead.
