MTV VMAs Red Carpet Recap

Hello my BH Beauties!

This year’s MTV Video Music Awards were eventful as always. While there were many show stopping performances, a wardrobe malfunction by Nicki Minaj and an emotional moment between Beyoncé and family, the makeup looks really ran the show this year. Here is the recap with our favorite VMA looks.

Rita Ora- Rita almost always rocks a bold lip with her look and this year’s VMA’s were no different. Ora sported a red lip to compliment the bright red in her dress and paired this with voluminous lashes and defined brows. To steal Rita’s makeup look apply our Creme Luxe Lipstick in a red color such as Sweet Mango and pair this with false eyelashes. Don’t forget to perfect brows with our Flawless Brow Trio.

Ke$ha- Ke$ha never disappoints us when it comes to making a statement and she lived up to expectations this year with her multicolored locks. Although Ke$ha’s hair was crazy, she kept makeup minimal and sported defined brows with muted lips and beautifully bronzed eyes. To get Ke$ha’s look, apply our Bombshell Bronze Powder to face and line eyes with a dark eye crayon. Pair this with a neutral eyeshadow and a few layers of mascara. Finish the look off by slicking on a simple lip gloss such as Up All Night.

Ariana Grande- Ariana Grande may be new to the scene, but she made a statement with her performance and gorgeous makeup. Ariana sported a red lip with playful winged eyeliner to match her attention getting outfit. To get her look, line eyes with our liquid eyeliner and layer lashes with our black mascara. Add a bright red lipstick and you are ready to go.

Beyoncé- Last but not least is Queen B, Beyoncé. She kept makeup muted on the red carpet, but still dazzled with a gorgeous natural glow. To get Beyoncé’s look we recommend bronzing your face and adding a pop of color to cheeks with our Duo Blush Palette. Add a pop of gold eyeshadow to eyes and some neutral lip gloss, and you are ready for your own red carpet.

One thing is for sure, between the talent and gorgeous makeup looks, the ladies owned the night both on and off of the red carpet this year!

Celebrate August’s Birthstone: Peridot!

August is the month of the peridot, and this is the perfect gem to accompany a summer birthday. PeridotPeridots have a unique green color and are considered to be an old gemstone symbolizing strength and hosting special powers and properties. They are also associated with love and faithfulness. The flattering green of the peridot can be worn in multiple ways, but makeup is our favorite way to honor this birthstone!

One of the best places to wear green is on the eyes, so we recommend trying one of the beautiful shades of green from our Take Me To Brazil Eyeshadow Palette. This palette features both light and dark shades of green as well as yellows and blues for blending. To achieve the yellowish green color of the peridot, we recommend mixing the light green colors of the palette with a shade of yellow. If you prefer to make a statement with eyeliner instead of eyeshadow, boldly line eyes with our Huntress Eye Crayon or our Fairy Eyeliner.

Take Me To Brazil Eyeshadow Palette

Pair either look with a few coats of our Loveable Lash Mascara and keep lips simple by adding a coat of one of our muted glosses like Up All Night or Angel Kiss. Complete the peridot look by applying a light coat of bronzer to your face with one of the brushes from our 15 pc Rose Gold Brush Set.

Get ready to turn heads and prove what a gem August girls are!

Pam Grier, Our ‘70s Makeup Icon

Hello BH Beauties!

Credit: BET

In honor of #ThrowbackThursday and our Eyes on the ‘70s Eyeshadow Palette, today we are going to recognize a beauty icon who has stayed fabulous through the years, Pam Grier.

In comparison to the heavy and bold colors of the ‘80s, Pam let her natural beauty shine through in her iconic neutral ‘70s looks.

Eyes- Pam kept her face makeup minimal and focused on highlighting her eyes. To get this look I recommend opting for a neutral shadow and focusing on bold lashes. This can be achieved by layering multiple coats of our Loveable Lash Mascara to lengthen and add volume to lashes, or using false eyelashes to instantly add length and volume.

Lips- Pam highlighted her pout by keeping lips neutral. For this lip look I recommend using a nude lip liner to outline and add definition. For a pop of shine and an extra layer of color, pair the lip liner with your favorite lip gloss.  I recommend sticking with a nude or peach shade to keep a neutral look.

Face- This look does not require a heavy amount of face makeup, just enough to highlight your beautiful skin. I recommend applying pressed powder and layering a light coat of blush or bronzer on top for an added glow.

Let’s not forget another famous beauty icon, Queen Bey, payed homage to Pam Grier with her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Those are our favorite looks of the decade, what are yours? In honor of #ThrowbackThursday share your ‘70s looks with us on Instagram and use #bhcosmetics.

Make a Statement on Campus With These Back to School Essentials

Hello BH Beauties!

While we still have a few weeks of summer weather to enjoy, back to school season is approaching. It is always necessary to stock up on notebooks, pens and snacks for the dorm room but let’s not forget about stocking up on all of your favorite makeup products to make a statement on campus this fall. Here are a few essentials I recommend trying.

shutterstock_118296211

Face- While you can still rock bronzer into the early fall (and even year round), I recommend adding a pop of color with blush for a new look. Our Glamorous Blush Palette has the perfect blend of nude, pink and berry shades to wear for a full day of class or an after-school coffee break. Pair this with powder for a finished look.

Eyes- Early mornings can put our beauty to the test, especially with busy social lives and 8:00 a.m. classes. To stay gorgeous at all times I recommend investing in one of our eyeshadow palettes. These palettes come in a variety of colors and are a makeup staple to quickly brighten eyes for class and club meetings. Add a quick coat of mascara and you are good to go.

Lips- Finish your look by adding a coat of lip gloss and you are ready for the day.

Makeup Bag Essentials- I don’t know about you, but I carry a cosmetics bag in my purse at all times for touch ups between classes! A few must-haves that I carry with me are makeup remover towelettes, mascara, and pressed powder. These help me to freshen my look and maintain my cool when I’m on the go.

You worked hard all summer earning some extra cash for textbooks, so go ahead and spoil yourself by taking advantage of our Back to School Sale to stock up on all of your favorite goodies.

What new looks will you be trying for class? Make sure to share your stories with us by tagging Instagram photos with #bhcosmetics.

How to Get Cyndi Lauper’s 80′s Makeup

Hello BH Beauties!

cyndi-lauper-makeupToday is Thursday and you know what that means….#ThrowbackThursday. In honor of our Eyes on the ‘80s Eyeshadow Palette, we decided to feature looks from one of our favorite makeup trendsetters of this totally cool decade, Cyndi Lauper.

She made bright colors fashionable and fun. Follow these tips to get a modern version of her look!

80′s Eyes

Our Eyes on the ‘80s Eyeshadow Palette mixes a vibrant array of matte, shimmer and neon shades that embrace everything we love about the decade of big makeup and big hair. Create a bright and colorful look by applying the shadows from our palette. I recommend staying in the same color family when selecting an eyeshadow (pinks and purples can stay together). Also, when applying the eyeshadow be sure to layer and blend the colors with one of our makeup brush sets to create a smooth and finished look.

Face

Now that your eyes are bright with a pop of color, it is time to add color to your face. I recommend applying blush, as this was a popular ‘80s look. Our Glamorous Blush Palette features a variety of colors including nudes, pinks and berry shades perfect for day and night.

Lips

The last step in this process is adding color to your lips! The ‘80s were infamous for bright lip colors in shades of red, pink and orange. To create vibrant lips layer one of our lipsticks on and don’t forget to apply lip liner. Lip liner is essential for outlining your lips and filling in color.

Those are our favorite looks of the decade, what are yours? In honor of #ThrowbackThursday share your ‘80s looks with us and use #bhcosmetics on Instagram for your looks!

Celebrate July’s Birthstone: Ruby

Birthstone_July

The ruby has been known to arouse the senses and stir the imagination guaranteeing health, wisdom, wealth, and love. Some believe it possess charact

eristics of devotion, integrity, courage, and happiness. This romantic gem is the rarest of all gemstones and is one to be desired, just like you! The shade of ruby red is classic and bold and can be worn so many beautiful ways.

As stunning as this color can be in a pair of earrings or in a necklace, it can be worn just as beautifully on your face! Let’s start with the obvious; there is hardly anything more sassy, dauntless, and eye-catching as a ruby-red lip.  A few dabs of concealer, a pair of false lashes, and a red lipstick is one of the simplest ways to look sexy and put together in no time. If you prefer a more sheer red that you can swipe on mirror-less, try a red Lip Gloss .

Now, let’s get creative.  Start with the gorgeous red shade in the Eyes on the ‘80s palette (it’s 2nd down on the 1st column). How does one wear red on the eyes you ask? Start soft and build. Use the shadow with a small brush as a liner on the top lash line and pair it with a softer shade on the lid. Try it on the outer “v” with a neutral color that softly fades into the red. Don’t forget to blend for best results, make sure to take your time on this step! Want to take this look to the next level? Take a red Glitter and add it to the center of the lid for a pop of ruby! Make sure to use a primer or sticky eyeshadow  to help hold the glitter in place.

The color red represents: energy, determination, and power. Rock this color with confidence and show just how amazing you Ruby Birthstones really are!

BET Awards Makeup Showdown

Hello BH Beauties!

Did you get a chance to watch the BET awards this past Sunday? Between the #LionelRitchie fail and Nicki Minaj’s acceptance speech, it was a crazy night of performances. Oh course, since we’re makeup addicts, we were focused on the red carpet beauties!

Here are some of our favorites:

Gabrielle Union! Can you believe she is 41? She looked stunning at the BET awards with gorgeous hair and radiant, dewy skin. Her brows were flawless and her eyes were lightly lined and finished with a full lash. Her lips were neutral and glossy, and her face had just the right amount of contouring. We love this simple, elegant look!

Actress Zendaya wore a similar look with a neutral peach lipstick and dark-lined eyes, heavy mascara, and perfect brows. Her skin looked gorgeous and sun-kissed and looked fabulous with her casual outfit.

Jennifer Hudson paired thick winged eyeliner and heavy mascara with a bright red lip, keeping the look simple so all attention was directed to her sexy new pixie cut!

Nicki Minaj – if you only remember her from the crazy colored wig days, you might not have recognized her at the BET awards with long, dark hair in tight curls. She kept the focus on her gorgeous hair by keeping her makeup neutral pairing defined brows, simple lined eyes and a glossy lip. To copy her look, don’t forget to use a highlighter to mimic her stunning cheekbones.

We’re not sure what’s going on between Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj, but we love Iggy’s bright pink lips (kind of like our pop cultured lipstick!), winged eye and shimmery eye makeup.

Kenya Moore paired a beautiful orange lip (try Sweet Mango) with tight-lined eyes and thick, full lashes. Her brows are also thick – another big trend we noticed at this year’s awards!

What was your favorite look at the BET awards this year?

Fourth of July Makeup Looks to Make You Shine

Hello BH Beauties!

Summer is in full swing and the Fourth of July is just around the corner. This means it is time for cookouts, visits with family and friends and fireworks. Why not try a new makeup look to celebrate Independence Day? Here are a few ways you can use cosmetics to incorporate red, white and blue into your style.

fourthofjuly

Nails - An easy fun way to get into the spirit is by painting your nails in a shade of red or blue. If you are partial to red, I recommend trying Classic from the Flirty Mini Nail Polish Set. If blue is your color of choice, check out Boy from the Trendy Mini Nail Polish Set. Both will give you the perfect pop of color for your fingers and toes during the holiday weekend!

Another way to create a playful look with your nails is to apply manicure stickers. Manicure stickers are a convenient way to create beautiful nails in minutes. I like our Shipmate stickers because they have the perfect blend of red, white and blue.

Lips - If you are partial to pinks and nudes, now is the time to switch things up and show your pride with a red lip. Wearing lip gloss is a fun way to add color and shine to your face. Our Classy Gal is the perfect shade of red to create a bright pout for photos. If you prefer lipstick, I recommend our Red Truffle for vibrant color. Always remember to take care of your lips by exfoliating and moisturizing prior to applying any lip product for the best results.

white eyelinerEyes - Last but not least are your eyes. Wearing white eyeliner is flattering because it brightens eyes and compliments a bold lip. White eyeliner can be worn as is or it can be paired with blue eyeliner to create a layered look with contrast.

What will your Fourth of July makeup look like? Remember to share your stories and photos with us!

4 Ways to Amp Up Your Eyeliner This Summer

Hi BH Beauties!

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a little bored with doing the same eyeliner routine everyday. I love checking out your looks on Instagram (use #bhcosmetics) and seeing the different looks you’ve created! I’ve been inspired and here are some of my favorite ideas for summer 2014.

Line Eyes with Brights or Pastels

fun eyeliner ideas

Put away the black and brown eyeliner and invest in some fun colored eyeliner! I love our eye crayons because you can use them as eyeliner or eye shadow. My favorite spring color is Heavenly, but Iris is a beautiful light purple too.

White Eyeliner

I’ve talked about white eyeliner a lot on the blog, but that’s just because it’s one of my favorite trends this spring and summer. It’s fun, makes your eyes look bigger, and the look can be subtle or dramatic depending on how you apply it.

Try it out and apply just a little bit to the inner corners of your eyes, or line your bottom waterline with it. For more advanced users, double line your upper lashes with black and then white.

Double Eyeliner

double eyeliner ideasOne of my favorite looks I’ve seen this season is the double eyeliner look. As I just mentioned, lining your eyes with black and then white on top is a really cool look. I also love pairing black or brown eyeliner and pastels or brights together and making a double winged eyeliner look. You can combine whatever you want – get creative!

Upside-Down Eyeliner

We all have different eye shapes and some eyeliner looks work for some, and look terrible on others. I used to think it only putting eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes was The #1 Beauty Rule you were not supposed to break, but I’ve seen a number of awesome tutorials for upside-down eyeliner. This works well for hooded eyes and those with smaller eyes as it opens up the space between the eye and brow, while still drawing attention to your gorgeous eyes. There’s a neat tutorial on The Beauty Department on how to do an upside-down cat eye.

Get creative and use the #bhcosmetics on Instagram to show off some of your gorgeous looks!
