Who else is ready for spring? I know I’m looking forward to the warmer weather, blooming flowers, and being one step closer to summertime! Spring is a time of renewal, and not just for the earth, but for your makeup routine, too! Forget the Easter-inspired pastels, because this season the trends are bold, bright and beautiful, yet still easy to achieve! Here are four of the most wearable and fun makeup trends for Spring 2013.

Bold Brows & Bright Lips

Full eyebrows are a trend that isn’t going anywhere in the near future… so if you haven’t yet, now’s the time to embrace it! Drop the tweezers and fill in those bad boys with a small angled brush and a shimmer-free eye shadow that closely matches your natural color. Brush some clear brow gel or mascara through them to set each hair in place!

But don’t forget that bright poppy-colored pout! The runways were graced with various shades of red, but you don’t have to limit yourself this spring. Swipe on a shade of pink, purple, orange or red – the brighter the better!

Finish the whole look with just a little bit of mascara, and contour your cheeks. Now you look confident and trendy, without being too overdone. This look is perfect for casual days or even the workplace!

Colorful Eyes

Break out that box of crayola! This spring, our motto is “the brighter, the better”. Although the models here have gone all-out, you can simply take some inspiration from their boldness by adding a colorful liner along your lower lashline. Apply a medium brown eyeshadow to your crease for definition and mascara to finish it off.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Eyes

The “nighttime look” for spring, this trend focuses on slightly smudged dark liner – taking a bit of inspiration from the 60′s. You can play up the grunged look by adding some black eyeshadow over top, or make the look more feminine by cutting a crease Edie Sedgewick style.

For a more toned-down look, smudge a pencil liner around the outer half of your eye in a “C” shape. Use a smudge brush to blend and soften the liner to create a subtle cat eye. Add lots of mascara to the top and bottom lashes, and contour those cheeks! Finish off with a peachy-nude lip.

Fallen Angels

This was a term that came up a lot at Fashion Week, describing the ethereal beauty of the simplistic makeup gracing the runways. The key is to play up your naturally beautiful features, by creating flawless skin and bronzing the cheeks for a sun-kissed glow.

Keep the eyes simple with groomed brows, a shimmery champagne eye shadow, and mascara. Prime your skin and apply a luminous foundation to give your skin a natural finish, and add a pop of bronze onto your cheekbones and temples. Keep the lips natural and slightly rosy.

Bridal Makeup on A Budget

Makeup is the key to looking back at your wedding pictures and feeling good about the way you looked. Creating that flawless makeup can be achieved without spending all that much needed money on a makeup artist with these 8 easy steps. These products are going to create a beautiful makeup look on an affordable budget.

1.) The first step to achieving that perfect bridal makeup is the skin. Creating your perfect canvas to apply the rest of your makeup to is key. Using a medium to full coverage foundation apply this to your face, blending down your neck and making sure your skin tone looks even and flawless. Make sure to check that the foundation takes pictures in flash well and doesn’t cause a white cast (usually if it has no suncreen in it, you should be ok)…. Any blemishes should be concealed and under the eyes as well with a concealer 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation color. Blend out with a large eyeshadow brush from the BH Cosmetics 10 pcs Eco Brush Set.

2.) Apply the BH Cosmetics Correcting Eye Primer to the entire eye lid up to the brow using your finer. This will help your eyeshadow stay looking fresh and crease free all day.

3.) Contour using a matte brown powder and the angled brush from the Eco Set in the hollows of your cheeks, temples, sides of the nose and underneath the bottom lip to create a slimmer face.

4.) Using the BH Cosmetics Malibu Eyeshadow & Blush Palette, take the bright coral/pink blush on the backs of the cheeks with the blush brush from the Eco Set and then apply a small amount of the shimmery blush on top. With the highlight shade a the flat foundation brush in the eco set, apply this color to the tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose and cupids bow. Bring whatever is left on the brush in the center of the cheeks to create a bright and glowy effect.

5.) Using a small flat eyeshadow brush from the Eco Set, apply the lightest cream eyeshadow from the Malibu Palette to the browbone, tearduct and lower lid. Take the fluffy brush and apply the light tan eyeshadow from the Malibu palette in the crease and then with the same brush take the slightly warmer, darker tan eyeshadow from the same palette over the outer corner and crease. Blend using circular and back and forth motions. Take The pencil brush from the Eco Set and use the medium brown eyeshadow in the Malibu palette to focus on the outer corner and crease and also apply this to the lower lash line using the flat brush. To finish of the look and to give the eyes a little extra glamour apply the shimmery gold form the Malibu Palette to the center of the lids using the flat eyeshadow brush.

6.) Apply a cream gel liner creating a soft cat eye.

7.) Apply mascara. Waterproof mascara and light wispy false lashes looks great for your wedding day.

8.) Apply the BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liner in Earth to the entire lip, blending out softly towards the inner lip. This liner will last all day! Using the highlight shade from the Malibu palette take your finger and apply a tiny bit to the center of the top and bottom lip to create a full, pouty lip. Finish off with the beautiful BH Cosmetics Peace, Love, Mod lipgloss to create a beautiful soft nude lip that will leave the lips looking shiny and luscious.

Day to Night Tutorial

As everyday women we are often pulled in a dozen different directions all at once, and we are always expected to look the part. Who wants to carry a heavy sac of makeup to change from office to an evening look that is simple to do but that makes a dramatic difference. All it takes is three in the morning and adding two at night, one lipstick, one liner and mascara.

Day Look Instructions:

1. Prime your lids using the eye and lip primer - I love double duty products

2. From the Night side add the light bronze shadow to your lid up to your crease

3. From the Day side add the light colored shimmer neutral shade over the entire lid

4. From the Night side use the matte brown and a crease brush to create depth

5. Finish off with brown liner and mascara and you’re set for your day

6. Don’t forget your brows define with Automatic Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brunette and highlight with the neutral shadow matching your skin tone.

7. Add your favorite highlighter blush

8. apply your favorite nude lipstick or gloss

Night Look

To go from day to night is simple all you need is a great black liner and two more colors and a coat of mascara and you’re done.

1. On the Night side pack on the beautiful violet color to your lid up to your crease

2. Using a crease brush utilize black matte color on the Night side and create a V on the outer corner of your eye bringing in three quarters of your eye.

3. Using your black eye liner create a thin to medium line across your eyelid and in your water line (lower lid)

4. apply one more coat of mascara to darken your lashes

5. reapply your favorite nude lipstick

Final night Look, your all done and ready to dazzle!

Lilac Eye Tutorial

We are in love with lilac for Spring! We have created a gorgeous lilac eye that can be worn from spring into summer. This pastel eye is perfect for all eye colors and is way too pretty to pass up!

To achieve the Lilac Eye look follow these steps:

1. Prime the entire lid with your BH Eye Primer.

2. Apply a matte light lilac shade from the 120 Color 5th Edition Palette all over your lower lid.

3. Apply dark violet shadow through the crease with your Smudge Brush.

4. Using a Flat Liner Brush, sweep the dark cool-toned purple shadow under the lower lash line and blend softly into the outer corner, sweeping the shadow up into the crease area to blend.

5. Apply the BH Eye Crayon in Crystal on the inner corner of the eye and blend softly into the purple on the lower lash line.

6. Apply Gel Eyeliner in Onyx with your Angled Definer Brush on upper lash lines.

7. Apply your favorite mascara and you are all ready to go!

Drab to Fab in Seconds: Mattes, Palettes and Denim

KISS or MISS? Keeping it simple doesn’t mean keep it boring. Makeup is composed of colors, patterns, and textures which makes it a form of art. And, like art, it should add expression – not take it away. So here’s to keeping it simple (K.I.S.S.) without losing our artistic edge.

Too Much of a Good Thing

Can you ever be too matte? The answer is yes. Too much of anything is never good – even when it comes to makeup. Matte lipstick is the new fashion high. Celebrities are sporting lots of bold, matte lips on the red carpet and it looks absolutely fabulous. But sometimes wearing a matte lip requires a lot of finesse, a little courage and a bit of know-how.

Keep Things in Balance

Like I mentioned earlier too much of anything is never good. The key is to mix different textures, finishes and elements. Using variety makeup palettes can help keep things spontaneous. Variety palettes like the latest Malibu, Hollywood and San Francisco are great must-haves. They have the tools needed for your daily dose of “wow.” The countless combinations encourage creativity.

Charlize: The Token Matte Celeb

Charlize is one celeb who adores matte makeup looks. In fact, I’d say it is her signature look. Here she has a matte canvas and a nude matte lip paired with a shimmery eyeshadow. Using a light-colored eyeshadow similar to those in the 88 Shimmer palette in the inner ducts opens your eyes and make you appear more awake. Applying a shimmery, copper-based eyeshadow to the lids adds warmth as well as dimension. Although Charlize did some mixing here, I feel she could have done more to make this look “pop.” She could easily add more bronzer or even a highlight for a more luminous look.

The BAM Effect

Bam! Now that’s the wow factor, right? You can see from the earlier picture that she actually didn’t change much to make her look more impactful. Using a deep colored matte lipstick, Charlize added a pop of color. She also has a little sheen on her cheekbones which added that touch of luminosity that was missing previously. Instantly she looks more alive, more inviting; she even looks happier. Simply adding shimmer to her cheekbones and going bolder on the lips took her makeup to the next level.

Power Up Those Makeup Palettes

We can see mixing and matching is key and that too much of anything can be downright boring. Just picture someone wearing a denim chambray with denim jeans, a denim baseball cap, topped with a pair of denim boots (yes, the ones with the pocket sewn on the sides). It’s just too much! Explore your makeup stash and have fun playing around with colors, textures and finishes.

San Francisco Smoky Eye Tutorial

Our BH San Francisco Palette has gorgeous muted shades that can create a beautiful smoky eye. Get a sophisticated bay area look inspired by the classic city of San Francisco.

Instructions:

1) Prime your lids using the Eye and Lip Primer.

2) Apply a shimmer lilac shade from the BH San Francisco Palette over the lid with your Blending Brush.

3) Use the matte taupe shade on the upper and lower lash line.

4) With your Smudge Brush, apply a shimmer taupe shade from the same palette on to the outer corners & crease. Apply a deep plum shade and then blend out with your Blending Brush.

5) Apply a light blue shade from the same palette for some extra shimmer.

6) Add a few coats of your favorite mascara to finish the look.

7) If you feel like adding some pop to your eyes but don’t feel like wearing bright color shades, try adding a little glitter into the corners of your eye using a Gel Eyeliner with your shade of choice followed by some loose glitter. Pat the glitter on over the Gel Eyeliner using the Small Concealer Brush. For this look, the Loose Glitter. in “Dusty Blue” was used.

Valentine’s Day Looks Tutorial

Valentine’s Day is commonly known as a day to exchange cards, flowers, and kisses, so why not do it with the perfect look. Go for nude, soft eyes and a pink pout for a perfect Sweetheart Look or decide to be daring with a Valentine’s Vixen Look with sultry, purple eyes and ravishing red lips. Whether it’s a romantic date night with your significant other or just a fun girl’s night out on the town, either look is perfect for the day of love.

‘Sweetheart Look’

Products Used:

-28 Color Neutral Eye Palette

-66 Lip Color Palette

-Gel Eyeliner “Chocolate”

-Classic Smudge Brush

-Smudge Brush

Instructions:

1) Prime your lids using the Eye and Lip Primer.

2) Apply a pale pink shade from the 28 Neutral Color Palette over the entire lid with your Blending Brush.

3) With your Smudge Brush, apply a taupe shade from the same palette on to the outer corners & crease. Blend out with your Blending Brush.

4) Line the upper lash lines & waterlines with the Gel Eyeliner in “Chocolate” using the Fine Eyeliner Brush.
5) Prime your lips with the Eye & Lip Primer and apply a pale pink shade from the 66 Lip Color Palette using the Lip Liner Brush.

6) Complete your look with some mascara and blush for the glowing, rosy look.

‘Valentine’s Vixen Look’

Products Used:

-28 Color Smoky Eye Palette

-66 Lip Color Palette

-Gel Eyeliner “Onyx”

-Eye and Lip Primer

-Flared False Lashes (of your choice)

-Lip Liner Brush

-Fine Eyeliner Brush

-Blending Brush

-Classic Smudge Brush

-Smudge Brush

Instructions:

1) Prime your lids using the Eye and Lip Primer.

2) Apply a cool shimmer purple shade from the 28 Smoky Eye Color Palette over the entire lid with you Blending Brush.
3) With your Smudge Brush, apply a gunmetal shimmer shade from the same palette on to the outer corners & crease. Blend out with your Blending Brush.

4) Line the upper lash line by using a wet Angled Definer Brush and the electric purple shade found in the same palette.

5) Using the Fine Eyeliner Brush, line the waterlines and directly below the lower lash line with the Gel Eyeliner in “Onyx” or Eye Crayon in “Shadow.”

6) Prime your lips with the Eye & Lip Primer and apply a rosy red shade from the 66 Lip Color Palette using the Lip Liner Brush.

7) Complete your look with your favorite flared false lashes & mascara. I don’t recommend using a color blush with this look. A very soft, pale pink blush or even a neutral shimmer bronzer, such as the Bronzing Powder in “Golden” will do the trick!

Recommended Products:

Instructions for achieving a sexy smoky eye:

1) Prime the lid area using the Corrective or Eye and Lip Primer. The waterproof formula will keep your shadow in place without smudging and turning into an all-around black eye.

2) It is crucial to use a fluffy blending brush for your smoky eye applications. Blending Brushes will allow for you to apply a little shadow at a time and ‘build up’ your shadow gradually for that flawless, smooth eye look.

3) Line the inner waterline of the eyes using the Eye Crayon in Shadow. You can also apply a little bit of this product over the upper and below the lower lash line. Using the Small Smudge Brush, blend the crayon into the lash lines for a more dramatic makeup effect.

4) Lip color works great with a colorful smoky eye, but when using neutral shades, it is best to stay neutral around the rest of your face to keep a balanced look. Wear a nude gloss such as the BH Lipgloss in “Office Queen” or “Plain Jane.”

DIY Holiday Skin Treatments

Just because the weather outside is frightful, it doesn’t mean your skin has to be! Cold weather, limited sunlight and long days spent indoors can wreak havoc on your holiday glow. Check out these DIY holiday skin treatments using commonly used ingredients during the season. Try these on your own or package them for a unique holiday gift!

Honey and Brown Sugar Body Scrub

With all of the baking necessary this time of year, the ingredients for this scrub may already be in your cupboard. Brown sugar exfoliates the skin while honey moisturizes. This scrub is perfect to get rid of dead, dry skin and bring a holiday glow to hands, feet and everything in between. Slather this scrub on wet skin every few days. Rub into skin in a circular motion and rinse.

Ingredients:

3 T. brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 t. honey

Mix brown sugar and water together until they form a paste. Whisk in honey. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to seven days.

Apple Juice Toner

Visits to the apple orchard are popular this time of year. On your next trip, pick up a couple of extra apples to use for this juicy facial toner. The acid in apple juice cuts grease and helps clean pores. Use this toner day and night for a luxurious, natural clean. After washing your face, pour a small amount on a cotton pad. Swipe over face avoiding the eye area.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup apple juice
4 T. witch hazel

Mix thoroughly. Pour into a clean bottle. Store at room temperature for up to ten days.

Coffee and Cocoa Face Mask

Curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and treat your skin to this coffee and cocoa mask. The caffeine in these ingredients decreases puffiness around the eyes and brings a noticeable glow to the skin. When the mask is ready to use, apply to dry, clean skin. Let the mask set for 15 minutes. Press a wet washcloth to your face to loosen the mask, then rinse with warm water.

Ingredients:

4 T. finely ground coffee
4 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
8 T. almond milk, coconut milk or plain yogurt

Mix coffee and cocoa powder. Add milk or yogurt to form a smooth paste. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to seven days.
