There’s no denying it. We’ve got the winter blues. We’re missing warm summer nights and lazy days at the beach. But just because the weather is dull doesn’t mean your makeup has to be!
Here are our favorite tips to fake the sun-kissed look while you’re missing the sun.
- Obviously bronzer is your best friend in the winter. Make sure you pick one that has more brown tones rather than orange ones. The trick to using bronzer is to only use it where the sun would naturally hit your face: top of your forehead, your temples, bridge of your nose, apples of your cheeks, and chin.
Makeup Artist Tip: Don’t forget to shade your jawline and neck so your face doesn’t look significantly darker than the rest of your body!
- If you don’t want to use bronzer, you can still get a glowing look by combining a highlighter and blush with a neutral shimmer eye shadow. Make sure your eyes stand out with mascara or eyeliner.
- Stick with warm tones like pinks, golds, and browns in your makeup during the dark winter months, as they’ll help you achieve that natural glow.
Don’t forget to change up your skincare routine in the winter to take care of your skin! Make sure you are exfoliating regularly. It’s hard to do this during the winter because your skin is already so dry, but it’s important to slough off those dead skin cells. Try a deep moisturizer or a moisturizing facemask to combat dry skin issues.
Let us know how you’re changing your beauty routine this winter! But don’t worry – Spring is just around the corner!
Just because Valentine’s Day is over, doesn’t mean you can’t still do cute red and pink nail art to celebrate for the rest of the month! Red and Pink are the most classic nail colors, so why not continue with these trendy nail colors!

Awards season is well underway, and the stars of tinsel town have gathered for many events to show off their best looks. Some gals may be viewing the gowns for fashion inspiration, but there are also tons of makeup trends that everyday people can apply to their beauty routine. Here are a few looks to try:
People’s Choice Awards: subtle smoky eye
For this awards ceremony, ladies who walked the red carpet took an understated approach to makeup. Eyes were lightly outlined with black liner and they used just a touch of mascara to bring out their lashes. Many gals completed their look with a blush lip color like BH lip gloss in studious.

Golden Globes: bold lip
Starlets like Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Roberts looked fab at the Golden Globes, and an overarching trend for this ceremony was bold lip hues. You can recreate the look by applying one of BH’s creme luxe lipsticks in a statement color like moody merlot or red truffle.

The Grammys: sharp brows
Divas took a few more risks with makeup at the Grammys, with a few songstresses sporting sharp eyebrows. The look can be mimicked by using BH’s LED lighted brow tweezer and the flawless brow trio. Use the tools to create defined brows to look like the gals at the Grammys.

If you’re looking for your go-to shadow shade, just use your eye color for inspiration. There is a tone that looks great with every gal’s eye color and will help bring out their natural features. To find the right color, just grab your 120 eyeshadow palette, and you’re sure to find your complementary tone.
120 Color Palette 5th Edition
Ladies with brown eyes are lucky because the hue is a mix of all the primary colors so many eyeshadow colors complement their eyes. But if you want to really stand out, select a cobalt blue shade. Just add a few swipes on your lids and work the tone toward your crease using the blending brush.
To highlight your blue eyes, opt for a purple tone because it’s in the same color family. Before hanging out with friends, apply your purple shadow and blend it into your crease with a light shimmery color like gold or silver.
Gals with green eyes don’t need to do much to make the color stand out. This is why a light taupe hue – which is between a brown and gray – works perfectly. Apply it with black liner for a new twist on a smoky eye.

The runway is a great place to pick up makeup inspiration when you want to revamp your look. If you're up for adding a bit of edge to your normal routine, try these twists on the traditional cat eye.
Dramatic black winged eyeliner
Before you begin this winged eyeliner makeup application, start with a great foundation. Add correcting eye primer to your lids so the liner will stay in place until the last school bell rings. Then take your BH eye crayon and make a thick slash on your eye lid right above your lash line and flick out the outer corner to form the winged effect. This creates the classic cat eye, but you'll need to keep adding to the line to make it thicker and more pronounced. Once your done you'll have a look directly inspired by the Libertine runway.
Outlined cat eye
Next up is a slightly different twist on the winged eye, yet it comes from the Lanvin catwalk. It involves making an outline of the cat eye by creating the bottom line as you normally do and adding a curved swoop a half inch above the first line. This look is great because it creates the illusion of larger eyes and you can sport it in a range of colors. Try using the sapphire, royalty or huntress eye crayon hues.
Mariah Carey is not only a vocal powerhouse, she’s a beauty maven that pulls off an effortless look every time she walks out of the house.
If you are a fan of Katy Perry, you know that she is all about color. She loves to don frocks that match her highly pigmented makeup. Here is how to mimic her “Roar” music video look:
First add a base coat to your face using BH liquid foundation. Then follow up by applying concealer underneath your eyes with the jumbo pencil for maximum coverage. Next, ensure your makeup will stay on throughout the day by adding primer to your eyelids.
Once you have your flawless base you are ready to move on to eye makeup. Grab the Take Me to Brazil eyeshadow palette and sweep the light purple shadow onto your lids. Then use a yellow hue from the same palette and line your bottom lashes using your flat liner brush. Next add a bit of green shadow to the same area on your bottom lash line. To finish up you’re going to use a clean blending brush and bring the purple shadow into your crease, highlighting the edge of your lid with a navy pigment.
Complete the look with blush from BH Floral Blush Duos in lilac or tulip. Then apply a generous coating of lipstick using the creme luxe lipstick in a bright hue like sweet mango or berry bite. You can also view the video tutorial at the BH Cosmetics website for a step-by-step guide.
Once you have mastered eye makeup and foundation applications it’s time to move on to the big leagues. And one of the advanced techniques you should try is contouring. Did you know that by using a bit of contour makeup in a strategic area your face can look slimmer? It’s simple to do, but try it out a couple of times so you become a pro, then reveal your new look one day at school!
To make things simple for you there is a contouring and blush palette that you can pick up. It comes complete with a variety of matte and high-pigmented shades. It’s important to know that dark hues recede light while the light ones help bring it forward. So you will be adding a mix of light and dark hues to slim your face.
For a thinner face, add the darker color from cheek to ear in a curved line. You might want to squeeze your lips together to make a “fish face” so you can see where to apply the shade. Use a blush brush to blend the contouring makeup so it’s not so noticeable. Bring out the contour even more by applying the high-pigmented hue above the dark shade and blending it in so it matches your skin tone.
No matter how well you take care of your skin, you’ll have some imperfections from time to time.
