Most ladies love having tons of makeup around to try out different styles and techniques in a flash. However, their worlds can come crashing down at a moment's notice if they accidentally drop their makeup bag - causing a few casualties such as broken lipstick or eyeshadow palettes. These horror stories happen all the time and just when you thought all hope was lost, Allure Magazine swoops in to help. The experts recently discussed how fashionistas can salvage broken makeup and the tricks could keep favorite products around longer.

Broken lipstick
Ugh, have you ever pushed too hard on your lipstick causing it to break in half? If so, Allure has the solution for you. If there was a clean break, the magazine suggests using a blow dryer on the two sections to help warm it up and make it a bit sticky. When the consistency is just right, grab the two pieces and stick them together, applying pressure to the broken region. After the reattachment is a success, stick the lipstick in the refrigerator to help it harden in place. Tip: Always wash your hands and clean the tools used before trying this method in order to keep germs out.

If the melting process seems a bit too extreme for you, you can opt to go a different route. Instead of trying to repair the damages, simple cut off the rest of the product and stick it in a small container (think pill box or another container with a lid) along with the broken portion. Next, grab the trusty blow dryer and warm up the remains in the box until it's melted into a smooth surface. Now you can use the hue as more of a lip balm by applying it with your finger.

Powdered products
Powder-based beauty items such as blush, bronzer or eyeshadow can be a bit more difficult to repair. Even if you recently dropped your favorite shadow hue, causing it to break up into a thousand pieces, there are ways to bring it back to life, the news source reports.

The first trick to try when faced with this problem is to crush (yes, crush) the product up in its original compact until it becomes a fine dust. Next, add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the mixture and then pat it down until it becomes flat and "one" again.

If this doesn't seem to work, there is another idea to try out - transforming your powder product into a cream formula. To achieve this trick, you'll need to pound the shadow into fine dust, similar to the first step. Then, add a bit of Vaseline, mix it around in a new container and then refrigerate the concoction. After a day or so, you'll have a gorgeous dewy color that is almost break-proof. 

Crusty mascara
When it comes to mascara, you should switch it out every couple of months to be on the safe side. However, if you're in a pinch and need your current product to last a bit longer, there are ways to do so without it coming out flaky and crusty - a fashion no-no.

The first trick to try out in this problem has to do with how you apply it. Instead of pulling out your wand and "pumping" it for what you believe is added coating, simply lift it up in one swoop. All of the extra pumping actually causes the formula to dry out by mixing in more oxygen.

Another way to improve the shelf life of your mascara is to add in a couple drops of saline solution into the container. The product is safe for your eyes and will reduce how flaky mascara can get.
