Perfect your pout for the best lip color ever
It's exciting to open up a brand new lip palette - so many colors to try, shades to combine, makeup ideas to try! However, when your pout is dry, cracked and chapped, no lip color is going to look good. Anyone who has tried to wear red lipstick or lip stain on dry lips knows how the pigment can stick to the dry patches, making it look uneven. Exfoliating and moisturizing the skin on your lips will help lipsticks, stains and glosses glide on better.
The first step to a perfect pout is to exfoliate. Women's Health Magazine recommends squeezing a pea-sized amount of your favorite nourishing lip balm into your hand and mix in an equal amount of granulated sugar. Massage this mixture into your lips for one minute once a week to remove the dead, dry skin and nourish chapped lips.
You should also always use night time to lock in moisture. Keep a heavy balm or salve next to your bed, and make sure it contains shea butter, petroleum jelly or another emollient that will lock in the moisture while you are sleeping.
The skin on your lips is extremely thin and contains less natural pigment than the skin on the rest of your face, so it is much more susceptible to sun damage and dryness, the news outlet reports. When you wear lip gloss, the rays get reflected, so your lips are more likely to get burned. That is why it's important to layer on a lip primer or balm with SPF in it before you choose your color.
When your lips are healthy and smooth, you will find it is much easier to apply lip liner and all this season's hottest colors.
