Wine-inspired lips: a must-have for winter 2012
Most of-age ladies prefer to drink their red wine rather than have it stick to their lips. However, this may no longer be an issue, as InStyle Magazine reports wine-toned lipsticks are all the rage for this fall/winter.
Starlets like Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and Selita Ebanks have all been seen rocking this style as of late and fashion-forward fans need to take notice. Although wine tones like deep berry red and even copper hues, may seem like they work on all skin types, the truth is they don't, which is why it's important to understand which hue works best for certain skin.
InStyle reports ladies with fair skin, like Bosworth, will look best in more "neutral red or berry shades." A celebrity makeup artist added that fair skinned ladies can actually pull off all deep shades, it just depends on how daring the individual is willing to go.
"The benefits of going bold? Your teeth and the whites of your eyes look whiter," the artist told the publication.
Medium skin tones
Ladies with perfectly golden brown skin all season need to go for a more red or burgundy shade when looking to try the wine trend. The makeup artist insists ladies with this skin type stay away from brown-based lipsticks, as it will blend in too closely with their natural tone. The point of wearing wine-inspired lipstick is to stand out.
"Opt for fruity dark shades," the stylist told the magazine. "That will help you avoid ones that are too red or too brown."
Ladies with a darker complexion, like that of Ebanks, tend to look lovely and almost natural in wine-inspired hues.
"Dark skin looks great with wine lips, and they’re less of a dramatic statement than on someone with fairer skin because there’s less of a contrast with skin tone," the makeup artist told the news outlet. "The best shades are deep red, blackberry, and dark plum."
Women looking for a more dramatic feel from their lipstick may benefit from using a sleek gloss in order to sass it up a bit.
When wearing any of these deep red and purple wine-inspired looks, it's important to keep the rest of your makeup simple. A touch of peach or sun-kissed bronzer on your cheeks and simple eye makeup will look best. For the eyes, begin by rimming them in thin black eyeliner and then accentuate your peepers with neutral eyeshadow shades like gold, cream and brown.
