Bold ways to play up black eyeliner

Ladies out there may think they've seen and done it all when it comes to black eyeliner. However, this fabulous makeup product has stuck around for quite some time and with a few simple updates, it's sure to reign supreme for the next 100 years or so. To help spice up your daily eyeliner routine, Glamour Magazine recently broke down the top looks celebs have been wearing as of late.

Pair it with shimmer

A great way to lighten up the dark hue this summer is to add some metallic cream, gold or pearl eyeshadow around your eyeliner for a halo effect. To achieve this style, start by rimming your top and bottom lids with eyeliner per your usual routine. Next, use a fine liner brush to apply the shimmering eyeshadow underneath the black eyeliner on the bottom and above the dark shade on your top lids for a subtle, yet stunning glow.

Another great way to achieve a similar lightening effect is to rim your eyes in the black color and then rock a bold peach eyeshadow on top. The contrast is sure to stand out, without being too wild.

Mix and match

If you're not into being matchy-matchy, you can try a different approach involving a few shades of eyeshadow. If you have green or blue eyes, a great look to try is to first rim the top and bottom lids in black. Next, select a copper or brown eyeshadow and a dark blue or purple shade as well. Apply the copper hue underneath the eyeliner on your bottom lids and use the purple or blue shade on your top lids. The colors are complementary, yet add a pop of high fashion to your overall style.

Modern cat eye

When you're trying to be a diva or to stand out from the crowd, there is no better look to try than the cat eye. This old faithful works well on its own, but you can also add more drama too. Glamour reports a fabulous way to break out of the typical cat eye style is to add more than one extension. To achieve this, rim your top lids with eyeliner and extend the product out past your brow lines in a winged fashion. Then, add another wing slightly under the first line, creating multiple cat lashes. This minimal change will totally garner attention from that cute boy you met at the beach.

InStyle Magazine reports mega stars like Zooey Deschanel, Eva Mendes and Blake Lively have all been known to have fun with the cat eye style.
