Live it up this New Year's Eve with perfect makeup

Christmas is now over, meaning it's time for fashionistas to enjoy rocking their new duds, and more importantly, figure out what they're doing for New Year's Eve. From fabulous bashes with friends to a more laidback night with your best guy, ringing in the New Year is not complete without the perfect makeup.

Real Simple Magazine recently broke down exactly what leading ladies need to try out this New Year's in order to shine as brightly as the ball being dropped in Times Square.

Ruby red
When it comes to looking gorgeous in an instant, red lipstick is the way to go. This color not only stands on its own, but it also works to enhance your pout - an important factor on this well-known kissing holiday.

Just because red may instantly work to help you look gorgeous, doesn't mean it is easy to apply. In fact, it takes a few steps to get it right.

First, you'll need to ensure your lips are soft and flake-free by wetting a face cloth with warm water and then applying it directly on your pout for one to two minutes. After the allotted time, start rubbing your lips with the cloth in circular motions to remove dead skin.

When your lips are baby soft, you'll want to line them in a nude liner in order to lock the color in so it doesn't end up on your teeth or anywhere else. When the lips are lined, swipe on the main event starting in the middle and moving out toward the edges. Apply a top layer of gloss if you're feeling a bit adventurous.

New Year's Eve is one of the select times when it's OK to rock a metallic or sparkling frock along with shimmering eye makeup. If you are ready to get glamorous, pick up eyeshadow in shades like shimmering silver, gold or copper. Swipe the chosen hue on your top lids and at the inner corners of your eyes and then finish the peepers with volumizing false lashes.

Fun eyeliners
This holiday is all about living it up and having fun and your eyeliner should represent how you feel. For New Year's, swap out your standard black liner for something more daring, such as a violet liner or even a metallic green or blue hue. The unique pop of color is sure to garner major attention from that guy you've been crushing on.

Rosy cheeks and dazzling nail polish are also a must for this event.
