Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein keep it classic in NYC

Fashion houses Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein have been creating chic and clean-lined ensembles for decades. Their most recent runway shows at NYC Fashion Week were no different, though Lauren did get a bit more funky than usual.

Ralph Lauren

The Agence France-Presse reports Lauren added splashes of color such as turquoise and red to his recent show. The designer admitted he gained inspiration for his new collection from his travels to Spain.

"I am forever inspired by faraway exotic places," Lauren wrote on his Twitter page, after his show.

Despite the seemingly brighter looks on display, the classic American designer did stay true to one feature of his style - keeping his models' makeup minimal. Ladies who walked in the recent show stunned in muted tangerine lipstick on their pout with matte bronzer on their high cheekbones. The models' eyes were a bit more dramatic, starting with thick black eggplant-toned eyeliner on top and cream and shimmering gold eyeshadow on the top and bottom lids.

Gossip Center reports the gorgeous Jessica Alba turned up to view Lauren's new collection. The starlet turned head in a stunning black boat neckline top and a classic plaid flowy Lauren skirt. She kept her makeup simple - a touch of bronze lipstick, tons of sun kissed bronzer on her cheeks and a metallic brown and bronze smoky eye style.

Calvin Klein

Famed fashion house Calvin Klein went edgier in its recent collection, created by Francisco Costa, the women's creative director for the power house. The Associated Press reports the show was full of contrasting lines and frayed edges, as well as intricate shapes and dresses that fit like gloves to the models' bodies.

Costa explained he wanted the looks to be "a play on shadows and contrasts," Costa told the publication. "Light captured in modern draping, formed by compressions and folds. Contouring shapes emphasize the bust and a cinched waist - exuding heightened elegance."

Models walking the show wore minimal makeup so as not to overpower the fabulous designs. Ladies rocked muted cranberry lipstick on their pouts and a touch of peach-toned blush on their cheeks. The eyes were simple as well - just a touch of eyeliner on the top lids accentuated with cream eyeshadow on the top and bottom lids.
