Unlike your eyeshadow, lipstick or mascara, you need your makeup brushes to last. This will require a bit of care on your part. Brush maintenance is simple and will not take a lot of your time. Perfect brushes can really affect how makeup shows on your skin so when you find the right set, be sure to learn the proper way to clean and store the brushes.
After use: Every time after you use a makeup brush clean it with a tissue or soft cloth to wipe away leftover blush or eyeshadow. Over time, the build-up from powder can damage the effectiveness of the brush.
Storing: When you are not using your brush set keep it enclosed in the original packaging. If you no longer have the kit you can use an eyeglass case or a plastic ziploc bag for storage. You want to keep the brushes covered so they are not exposed to any dust or build-up.
Cleaning: Once a month you should set aside about 10 minutes on the weekend to thoroughly clean your brush set. Gather all of the brushes and bring them near a sink. Then, pour shampoo into the palm of your hand or a kitchen bowl. Take one brush and dab it in the shampoo for a few seconds. Repeat with the remaining brushes.
When you feel you have cleaned the brush well with shampoo, rinse it in warm water. Finally, use a towel to lightly squeeze the excess water from the brush hairs. Lay the brushes out to dry for a few hours and they will be as good as new!
