I use all the 88's (actually I use ALL the palettes offered thru BHC) both personally and professionally. Sure you get clients who swear by a more expensive brand, though once I apply the BH products and they really see for themselves what great product it is for such incredible prices, they end up here ordering their own!
I love the vast color selections, and the organization of mattes, shimmers, etc. Of course Ive read some reviews that mention fading, creasing, lack of color payoff, etc. Sure, there are a few colors that are a little trickier to work with...but if you prep the skin correctly (in this case eyelids), and you're using the best set of brushes you can afford...because tools make all the difference between "okay" and "WOW" no matter how much natural talent you may have...you'll find that every color in every palette has its place and will give you long lasting payoff.

What makes the difference? PREP WORK IS CRUCIAL! One word I cannot use enough is EYELID PRIMER. I keep several types on hand, so that I have the right product for the skin I'm working on. If my client has oily lids, I'm going to use a water-based primer, and so on. I also ask a lot of questions before we start, about their own experiences with shadows, their preferences etc. All of this info along with really observing the naked skin help guide me in the right direction.

For instance sometimes primer isn't enough. Some women have darker eyelids than the rest of their face, so I'm going to apply a concealer over the primer and make sure all gel and creme products are blended well then I set it with a little micro finishing powder VERY lightly. Then you're ready to start with color work.

TIP: Always do the eyes first, before you do foundation...you're bound to make a bit of a mess under the eyes, esp when working with darker colors in the crease and edge for a smokey eye look. Clean up your "mess" before you begin the face. Makeup remover wipes work great for that!

Problems: Let's say we're working with a bright color that just isn't giving color payoff to your satisfaction. There's a trick to this: The trick to practice is as follows: let's say I want a fuscia/hot pink color in the crease and it just isn't giving me the depth of color I want it to. That's when you go to a midtone of reddish brown, and lightly fill in the crease then blend it out...after that's in place, then apply that hot pink over the brown. (I usually do this as a matter of course regardless since the brown contours the eye for me before I use rhe color over it. That midtone contour color should be exactly that; a MIDTONE, not a DARK shade! You'll find that with that bit of darker color behind a lighter one, that the lighter one will show up much much better, and really give you the depth, the pop you're looking for! (Just don't forget to blend blend blend the midtone and then the lighter/brighter shade over it, and always apply product sparingly. It's really easy to add more, but if you use too much, you may as well start over, because you'll have a muddy look in the end. This isn't about mixing the two shades, this is about layering, so blending out the excess of the midtone is really really important!

With all of the BHC palettes in my pro kit (and they pack so nicely, take up much less room then a bunch of separate containers!) I know that whatever job I'm off to do, The vast majority of shades lay down smoothly, and then I can get even more intensity if I pat color onto the lid with a brush, versus the traditional sweeping technique; shimmers and glitters definitely work much better when patted on! The bottom line for me is that no matter what I always feel confident that I am completely prepared for any look my client wants.

Throughout the years, I've tried all the "big brand" shadows, and BHC always stands up to the challenge, at a fraction of the cost! Frankly, even if BHC prices were higher, I'd stick with the BH Palettes.

When I first got my package (3 palettes and an eyeliner) this was the first product I just had to use. This palette is perfect for bridal season and I want to purchase another one for my freelance kit. It had mostly brown/neutral tones with a few cool colors to make a dramatic smoky eye. The colors are extremely pigmented and no two colors are the same. I absolutely adore this palette and all the neutral looks I can create on myself as well as clients.
