Read on to learn more about Tina and her exclusive new BH palette: Run Wild!
Now that you’ve had a preview, take an in depth look at our conversation with Tina!
Hi Tina! So tell us, where did you grow up?
I grew up in Sydney in a small place near Cabramatta which is kinda known as the “ghetto side”. But believe it or not it’s super expensive now and I grew up in an area with a lot of Vietnamese people.
Awesome. So what’s the biggest difference between Australia and US?
The portion size! For the sizes here, a small would be a large in Australia, so I think portion size is a big difference!
What inspired you to get into beauty?
I’ve always been the creative type and I kind of just fell into beauty. I studied graphic design first, I thought I wanted to be a graphic designer but then I just didn’t like being stuck in an office. I tried beauty out and I actually used to do a lot of facials and massages and that kind of evolved into makeup.
Love that. Who’s your biggest beauty inspiration?
It would have to be two people: Kevin Aucoin and Rae Morris, who is an Australian makeup artist.
What was the first BH Cosmetics product you ever used?
I remember it was the 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette: that was my first palette that I bought and that would’ve been like, eight years ago!
If you had to describe your new palette in one word, what would it be?
One word to describe my palette would be ‘wild’.
And what’s your favorite shade from it?
They’re all my favorite but I have to say that I love “Wild Child” which is a matte yellow, and one that I’m using now which is “Juicy”.
Super cute. What’s the one beauty product you couldn’t live without?
Moisturizer - I’m plain like that but I love my moisturizer!
What is your current favorite makeup trend?
It would have to be glossy everything: glossy eyes, glossy cheeks, glossy hair. I’m just all about the gloss!
Tell us about the idea behind the Tina Tries It series
Actually, I felt like I wanted to make my own twist on a ‘first impressions video’ so that’s how Tina Tries It came to be. It was like me trying something for the first time giving my honest opinion and then it kind of just took off!
If you had to describe your style in one word, what would it be?
What’s one beauty product that you never leave home without?
Are there any makeup trends you’ve wanted to try but fear you can’t pull off?
A deep cut crease - I feel like I’m not too confident with that!
What 3 words best describe you as a person?
Bubbly, silly and maybe a perfectionist sometimes.
If you weren’t in beauty, what career would you choose?
I think I would probably still be like a beauty therapist or a graphic designer.
If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
I would probably buy my parents a house—and then myself obviously, and then my dog as well because why not! Everyone deserves a house.
If you could trade lives with anybody for a day, who would it be?
It’d have to be Rihanna because I recently met her and I was completely fangirling.
Fill in the blank: I love makeup because it makes me feel ___:
Do you have a favorite spot to visit when you come to Los Angeles?
Every time I go to LA I have to visit In-N-Out Burger, hands down!
What is your favorite place to shop?
Online: I can spend hours on ASOS and I love Australian brands Sheike and Kookai, they’re my favorite.
You’ve traveled the world. What are your top 3 places to visit?
Korea—because it is a crazy beauty haven there, Japan, and the third would have to be Barcelona. I just love that they have the beaches: the food is really amazing and the people are really nice.
Do you have a secret talent?
I have one but I don’t think it’s much of a talent—I can move my nose and my ears. My party trick, guys! Super impressed, right?
What’s your favorite food of all time?
Vietnamese summer rolls and fish sauce!
What’s your favorite emoji?
Beauty sponge or makeup brush?
Beauty sponge all the way!
Matte or shimmer?
Matte because I’m using matte colors right now!
What is one thing that people may be surprised to learn about you?
One thing that everyone says when they first meet me is “Oh my god, Tina, you’re so tiny!” They only see the top half of me and expect me to be tall, I don’t know why, but I’m actually tiny!
Last question: What has been your proudest moment?
One of my proudest moments has to be when I got my mom off welfare. She was on welfare for a while and I was able to support her after a few years of doing YouTube, so that would be my proudest moment!
