So you’ve found your perfect dress. That guy in your Econ class that you’ve been flirting with all year finally asked you out with an elaborate Prom-posal. And your limo’s booked with all your besties. Now it’s time to prep for the big night.
The most important part of any beauty routine is a fresh, healthy canvas. Get that gorgeous face primed and ready to shine on Prom night with these pre-makeup tips:
1. Say it with me: EX-FO-LI-ATE!!
Exfoliating is one of the best ways to improve your skin’s texture and tone. If you don’t already have a go-to exfoliator, you can make a simple, natural exfoliant at home using everyday products like coconut oil and sugar (recipes here). Gently massage the mixture into your skin and rinse for a healthy, glowing face ready for makeup.
*Tip: Use any extra exfoliant to scrub your lips and remove dry skin for a smooth, puffy pout before applying color.
2. Reduce puffiness with tea bags
Prom can be stressful. If you were up late the night before and wake up feeling like a blowfish, no worries! A quick fix for reducing puffiness around those tired eyes is to apply a gentle, cold compress to the area for around five minutes. Using a product that contains caffeine, like a cold green tea bag, can add that extra oomph that’ll take you from sleepy to seductive.
3. Get a natural looking glow
They say beauty is pain, but we say you don’t need to subject yourself to those harmful UV rays just to get your glow on! Skip the tanning bed and try a slightly tinted lotion with a bit of shimmer for natural looking radiance. If you’re going for a just-landed-after-a-week-in-the-Bahamas kind of look, start applying a few days in advance so you have time to build your color. Sweep a bit of our Blushing in Bali bronzer on your shoulders and collarbone on the night of to take your look over the top.
4. Battle a last-minute stress pimple
We know you’ve been going through a lot, what with finals, Prom prep, and planning your next summer vacay. If you wake up on Prom day with a stress-induced volcano on your face, do not pop! We repeat! Do. Not. Pop! Instead, try this quick fix: Soak a Q-tip in eye drop solution, put it in the freezer for an hour, and rub it on your pimple to reduce redness and soothe irritation.
So you’re primed and ready to apply. Now what? Here are our top 3 tips and tricks to achieve photo-ready makeup looks that’ll last all night long.
1. Glow like Cardi
Your skin? It’s poppin’. Get buildable, full-face coverage that won’t budge with our BH Naturally Flawless Foundation, BH Studio Pro Total Coverage Concealer, and Studio Pro Matte Finish Pressed Powder. If this look was good enough for Cardi B’s baby photoshoot, it’s good enough for us.
*Tip: Blend, blend, blend! Don’t get caught looking two-toned in photos. Apply some extra concealer to your neck and ears and take on that flash photographer with confidence.
2. Choose smudge-proof shadows
Who has time for touch-ups? Choose a palette with all day slaying power, like our new ItsMyRayeRaye 15-Color Palette by beauty influencer Raye Boyce for Instagram-worthy looks. Whether you’re going for subtle and sophisticated or bold and edgy, these colors won’t smudge or fade as you dance the night away with your besties.
3. Achieve sky-high (natural!) lashes
Everyone loves a bold lash look. While fake lashes are always a great option (Like our NEW cruelty-free Mink Lashes, coming soon!), if you prefer a dramatic effect without the drama of dealing with glue-ons all night, here’s a tip for achieving stunning looks with your natural lashes. Use your blow dryer to warm up your eyelash curler ever-so-slightly for a perm that’ll take your lashes to the next level.
You’re all made up and ready to go! The last step is to pack your purse with everything you need to stay looking fresh all night. We surveyed some of our BH family to find out what products they wouldn’t leave home without on the big night.
