Prom season is upon us… and it’s time to take a break from dress shopping for a few pretty makeup ideas! One of the best parts of prom is the photos, and we want you to look back 10 years from now and admire your beautiful blend and poppin’ highlight. Seriously, this highlight is going to look AMAZING under the prom lighting. Grab your squad, your beauty bag and a few snacks, because doing your makeup on prom night will be half the fun!
1. Go Bold with Shadow
Eyes are the window to the soul, and the focus of all your prom selfies! We recommend going a bit bold with your shadow, as darker or more vibrant colors tend to show up better on camera and will stand out more against the dim lighting of the dance floor. You know what that means? A smokey eye! Dip into sultry sapphire, cinnamon, and burnt orange from our Desert Oasis palette for a lit look that perfectly matches your little black dress.
Feeling a bit more vivid, or want to match your colorful dress? Create a neon masterpiece with two of our most bright and beautiful palettes: Take Me Back to Brazil and Colour Festival! Both feature an assortment of matte and shimmer shades in green, yellow, purple, blue and more. The pretty makeup possibilities are endless, as you can simply wash a bit of shadow across your lid with your finger, or combine every hue for a rainbow eye that will have all eyes on you.
Don’t worry - we’re here for our soft glam girls too! A pretty peach look is perfect for prom, and our Nouveau Neutrals palette has captivating coral, lush apricot and shades
2. Blend, Blend, Blend
The art of blending is a pretty makeup trick we ALL need to know, especially for your prom photos! Most smartphone cameras these days are very high-quality, and pick up every harsh line, muddy patch, or unblended product on your face. That’s why you should take the extra time to blend beautifully before heading into the limo!
We’ve all had bad blending days, but prom should NOT be one of those days. That’s why you need the right tools! Our Studio Pro Beauty Sponge is ideal for liquids and creams - like foundation, concealer, and cream contour. The rounded base blends cheeks, forehead, and chin for smooth, undetectable finish, while the pointed end gets hard-to-reach spots like the corners of your nose or eyes. Be sure to dampen your beauty sponge before use for the best results! Also, PLEASE be sure to evenly spread your foundation across your ears, hairline, and chest… especially if you’re wearing a strapless dress! The last thing you want is for your body to be a different color than your face. Yikes!
We’ve all seen the memes about unblended eyeshadow, and you don’t want that to be you on prom night. That’s why you need a solid pair of brushes! Pick up one of our extremely versatile sets - like Sculpt and Blend Fan Faves or our Studio Pro Brush Set - for a selection of face and eye brushes that will flawlessly blend your foundation, shadow, or contour!
3. Set the Stage
A little mist goes a LONG way, especially at prom! Between all the sweat, confetti, and (happy!) tears, it’s easy for your makeup to fade away. Just a few spritzes of our Studio Pro Makeup Setting Spray and it’s locked in for the night!
Seriously, this is a magic mist! Just close your eyes, hold 8 inches from your face, and spray 4 times in an X and T motion for ultimate bulletproof beauty. Of course, don’t forget to prime your face before doing your makeup for even more slaying power! That means shadow base and our Studio Pro Foundation Primer for a flawless, forever finish that screams “PROM!”
4. Brighten Your Smile
Show us those pearly whites! You’ll be laughing and smiling all night long, and you want to basically blind everyone on the dance floor with your white teeth. They’ll bring even more attention to your lip color - red, berry, or nude - and your date will appreciate them if you go in for a midnight kiss!
The obvious answer is to brush and floss like CRAZY a few weeks before prom. That means a travel toothbrush and toothpaste in your clutch, and flossing between biology and algebra! Your dentist has been bugging you to floss more for years, and prom season is definitely the time to take his advice. Also try and avoid coffee, tea, and soda for a while, as these drinks stain your teeth. If you absolutely NEED your morning cup of coffee, try using a straw to keep your chompers white and fresh.
If you really want to go the extra mile for your chompers… try whitening strips! These babies are your new best friends - instantly removing stains and lighting up your look to give you the most beautiful teeth at the prom.
5. Get Your Best Brows
There’s a reason all the pro MUAs say that brows are the most important beauty step… it’s true! They frame your gorgeous face and pull your entire makeup look together, which is crucial on your big night! Grab your favorite brow tools and create an arch that would give Audrey Hepburn a run for her money!
From peachy sparkles to goth chic to old Hollywood glam… bold brows are the perfect addition to ANY prom vibe. All you need is a few essentials! With a thin, darker-hued tip for drawing precise, hair-like strokes and a thicker, slightly lighter hued tip for shading, our Studio Pro Shade & Define Duo Brow Pencil is a revolutionary tool with everything you need to throw shade in the best way. After you’re done filling in the sparse areas, comb out with the spooley end of our Studio Pro Brush 13 – Angled Liner/Spooley. If you’re more of a powder gal, our Studio Pro Ultimate Brow Palette has 8 powders and 4 wax shades that instantly let you brow with the best - prom style!
